Resetting Device Types to unknown

Hi!

Thank you for the Dude, it’s really a great tool.

I really like this feature “devices can be binded to mac address”. It’s great for DHCP environments! How do i use this?

I have the problem that my devices are reset to type Unknown. :frowning:
e.g. Our Router (in a submap with autodiscovery) is reset to unknown on Discovery.
We have also several devices which i have to reset manually on every service discovery. Means: When i do a service discovery (because i added a new snmp probe) and save the device it is reset to unknown after about 5 seconds.
I want my device types untouched even if the services may not match the device types definition.
e.g. I have 5 linux machines, each with different network services running, but i want them all to be statically set to type Linux.

Can i set services for several devices at once?

Can the new feature “macaddresses are resolved to manufacturer names” be turned off?

Thank you!

Greetings
Torpedro

  1. Service discovery will not identify device type if it was not ‘unknown’ in
    next release

  2. no

  3. Will be option ‘Resolve MAC Address Manufacturer’ in Server
    Configuration->Misc in next release

Thank you very much.
The most important is 1.

Not by MAC address, but you can auto-update the device’s IP address by it’s hostname (if your DNS knows the device’s dynmaic IP addresses).

Yes you can resolve ip address from MAC address. Open devices settings and
set ‘MAC lookup’ to ‘ip to mac’. Of course you have to have some source dude
can get those mappings from (dhcp leases, arps etc.)
