Restore did not work as expected

I upgraded my router to 7.1.3 yesterday.
2 minutes later, my internet went down.
I thought it was related to the upgrade (it wasn’t … my internet connection dropped in a freaky coincidence).
I opened WinBox > FILES > selected a file from December of last year > RESTORE > reset.
When the router was back up, I still had 7.1.3.
How is that possible?

The backup/restore doesn’t include the software, just the settings. And I think it’s recommended that the restore is only done on the same version of software it was backed up with.

Thanks.
So there is no way to fall back to a previous version of software if something goes wrong with an upgrade?

Sure it does, if you search for downgrade RouterOS, you will find this article:

Thanks!

The other option is partitions, depending on the model of router you have you can partition the disk and have different versions installed to different partitions (and even different configs), set a primary and a failover partition based on watchdogs etc.

I’ve used it successfully before when worried about upgrades on remote routers.
