Sorry for creating new topic… I was unable to find a similar one.
Today one of my routers (RB2011UAS-IN) died. I really don’t know, what happened. It was working perfectly at 5:00 AM, when I last check it remotely, and at 9:00 AM it died. It turns on, but nothing comes to the built-in touchscreen and when I try to reset it, WinBox can’t see the router’s MAC address. I had to buy a new router immediately and I bought RB2011UiAS-IN (with PoE out on Eth10). I have restored a backup config file to this new router, then I disabled PoE for Eth10 (as this port served as a WAN port in a previous router), connected all cables and everything worked like a charm. No issues noticed. My question is - shall I wait for some “surprises”? I mean that as I know, it’s not recommended to restore the backup config to the hardware that’s not exactly the same one, on which the config file was created.
I’d say “surprises” are possible. I’d recommend now doing /export on your new device, then factory reset and restore from this export. This way you will preserve the configuration you have now, but will also make sure there’s no hidden inconsistencies left.
Unfortunately, new router died as well… I really have no idea, what is happening I have to take both router to the service center. Maybe, they will be able to tell me, what is the reason of failure. Both routers are showing the “white” display on startup and 100 MB switch (Eth6 to Eth10) is not reacting at all, 1 G switch (Eth1 to Eth5) are reacting (lights are on, when connecting LAN cables to them), but WinBox does not see the MAC address of the router.
Sorry guys for disturbing and thanks again for help!
If you have devices connected with RJ45 cables and powered from power outlets using different phases then you have device-to-device phase-to-phase voltage at 380V which could destroy your devices.
Of course, we have several switches and media converters (to reach couple of buildings that are a bit far from the head office) in our network. It was working well during 17 years. Before buying MikroTik, we had D-Link DIR-100 for many years. In 2013 we bought RB2011UAS-IN and everything was working fine until this Thursday (March 16, 2017). We are still looking for the reason.
By the way - Besides RB2011UAS-IN, we have RB1100 router, which is configured as a normal switch. We bought it at the same day as RB2011UAS-IN. So, it is already 4 years, that this device is working without any issues. All the switches that are installed in the departments, are connected to this RB1100. Totally we have 9 departments, so 9 ports are used for connections to the departments’ switches. 1st port is used to connect RB1100 to RB2011UAS-IN. If there was a problem with electricity, I think RB110 should die before RB2011UAS-IN.
Well… Technicians at the service center were able to reset the new router (RB2011UiAS-IN), but the old one (RB2011UAS-IN) is still dead. It’s strange, because both routers died with the same symptoms. I forgot to post here… Sorry… RB2011UiAS-IN has been restored on the next day of my last post here. Since then, it’s working fine. I have double checked and all routers and switches are earthed (grounded) properly. Let’s hope that nothing serious happens
