RJ45 connetors

hiii.

in our outdoor installtion. we use ordinary RJ45 connectors from mikrotik to POE,

but we need to change the connectors after few months climbing all the way to the mikrotik on tower because the Ethernet stop responding, its shows unplugged when directly connected to LAPTOP when connected to LAN port of POE. after changing the connectors it again start working, but again after few months we hav to change them, and it happens in most of our units i suspect its because of moisture.

is there any special sort of outdoor RJ45 connectors we can use?

what kind of RJ45 connectors we should use in our outdoor units.?

Thx & Regards

Hi,

use CAT5E connectors (network) instead of cat3 connectors (telephone).

cat5E connectors costs between 0,40 € to 1 € here in Spain, and cat3 from 5cents to 15 cents.. each.

are you using stranded or solid copper cable? And are you using solid or stranded type rj45 connectors? They need to match. Also, if your cable isnt using 24ga copper you might just need better cable. The connectors should match the cabling specs.

If you pull the little copper tabs out (the ones that get pushed down by the crimp tool) and inspect them closely you will see that the ones for stranded wire are flat where the prongs go through the cable housing and the ones for solid wire have a little offset to the prongs. The standard package of connectors are usually for stranded cable as well and you have to ask for the solid version.

The trouble usually is using a stranded version with solid wire, instead of piercing the core of the wire the flat blade can be deflected completely missing the wire or might be touching but next to the wire. Also if it doesn’t work the connector is bad from the outset and will have to be re-cut. So it doesn’t match your scenario.

As for your exact trouble it sounds like weather but if it is corrosion you should be able to see it.
