Im having a VERY hard time with Mikrotik as it is lol and ive been reading about how things aren’t the same on v7. At least with regards to recursive routing. I know before I updated it, that it was actually working and now since the update its not. And im completely failing at getting support on forums and discord. What am I really losing out on with v7?
Probably should of researched the answer to that question before you switched in the first place.
Ahh man thanks!! You are so helpful… kind of have a 14 year old wearing a headset playing Call of Duty energy going on..
Keep on bringing so much to the forum..
Don’t understand your question (don’t speak native English, my appologies…). Are you looking for the differences between v6 and v7 and what you loose after upgrading (what was available and working in v6)?
Though I understand your reply to the post of smyers119…what was your reason for upgrading (for me it was Wireguard) in the first place?
In regards to help…did you already start another topic on this forum (yes…I can search for it)?
I’m sorry you found things not to your liking. Maybe we can help you learn or find things that you could not find?
Have you read the release notes/change logs?
In some cases you have no option but to run v7. At this point I doubt many new features will be added to v6. If v6 works for you, then use it. But at some point you are going to want to buy something new that requires v7, and then you will be under the gun to get things working. So if you can get things to work with v7 now, that will be better in the long term. And if you are relatively new to MikroTik (as I am), and you don’t have to support two different firmware versions, that is an advantage. Because then you will be more likely to be able to continue to use a configuration with v7 in the future.
There are other advantages to v7, for example wireguard support in v7.
I have a hEX S, and hardware assisted vlan-filtered bridge works in v7 and not in v6. Upgrading to v7.2 was one of the first things I did.
It’s not really that different than the question of whether to use v1.10.11 vs v2.0.9 on the Edgerouter, both have advantages and disadvantages.
Yes, above poster is right, v6 will only see critical security fixes. All development is concentrated on v7, this is why I ask, is there anything specific the OP would like help with
I admit that I spent quite sometime about (2) years finally getting an understand and a level of conform with the edge router line with ubiquiti but the lack of development on those routers lead me to Pfsense and now the more I see the power in Mikrotik I see myself starting ANOTHER long learning curve learning journey that just already feels exhausting. So because of that I reacted mainly with aggravation and just ran to post hoping someone would walk me through to the solution faster. (not the right approach I admit) Because my post were poorly written. After just calming down and reading the post from previous posts I was able to get my issues resolved. Even tho I did notice that in v6 at least the routes would let you see that the routes were recursive. There didnt seen to be any indicators that visually that they were, But after testing they were indeed working. I will take more timing moving forward to post my issues clearly.
Thank you and I apologize.
Glad you came to this conclusion, there is a great community working with Mikrotik and answering all kinds of questions on this forum. Feel free anytime!
