Hi, I bough a RB433 with Winbox V3.23 today. I also installed a WIFI card. I have an ADSL modem that connects to this router and my requirement is to have Password Access control for individual users who use this router through the WiFI and to be able to block certain services eg websites and to log the individual user’s activity in terms of bandwidth usage and websites visited (if possible).
Can this unit do this? And if so, where can I start…?
Thank you in advance… Cobus
Sure. You can use hotspot if you want something relatively straightforward. PPPoE is a more secure option a tad bit more technical.
For blocking a couple of services, the routeros firewall should do; but for a host of websites, you will want to setup a proxy server.
Routeros maintains logs of all connections to and from the router based on your firewall configuration. It can fill rapidly and so you’ll want to transfer them to a syslog server or something similar for longer storage. If you’re interested in bandwidth limitation, use queues.
You’ve got lots of reading to do! http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/MikroTik_RouterOS http://www.mikrotik.com/testdocs/ros/3.0/
