ROS Update Support Question.

I am planning the rollout of roughly 2500 MT devices with level 4 licenses into a secure network environment that is audited annually for security compliancy. One of the requirements that must be maintained is to have software/ OS support (in the form of updates, new versions and/or hotfixes) throughout the lifecycle of the device.

We are planning a 7 year service life for these devices.

I need to get a feeling for how long we will have update support under the current license model.

I’ve read everything I can in regards to Licensing:
Primarily, http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:License

I do understand that when you purchase a routerboard or level 4 license you have upgrade rights to the end of the next version. So right now I would get v5.21 and would have upgrade rights to the end of v6.x. This doesn’t exactly equate to a period of time.

I have owned MT licenses and devices for the better part of a decade and haven’t needed to repurchase licenses, but I haven’t had a requirement to keep those devices up to date either.

Can someone help me convert this into a period of time (i.e. ~4 years)?

Is there a published ROS product /feature roadmap that could help me determine this?

With a Cisco product I can expect a 10 or 15 year product life cycle for the hardware and IOS updates. I’m trying to come up with an equivalent on the MT side.

If I can’t get update support for the projected lifespan we will need to consider another product.

Thanks!

I think this really is an issue you should take up with Mikrotik personally.

wrong way  just include one more license into the cost =)

Exactly. This is what I also suggested to OmniSurf when he contacted support.
