Router Board Help

Hi. Complete novice and new to NZ. We have moved into our home and it has a router board in the hallway, I’ve connected it to the modem but not sure it’s working correctly as my WiFi drops out upstairs and goes into roaming?, how can I check the router board is working as it should be please?

It seems to be this device:
MikroTik Routers and Wireless - Products: wAP ac

Absolutely stunning device (for it's time), had it running outside for a very long time.

You might want to use a wifi analyzer on your phone to test its settings (assuming you have no credentials to manage it?). I assume you mean switching to mobile data (don't have another way of saying it) when loosing wifi connection? What is the signal strength upstairs? Could be that your house requires multiple accesspoints to cover the whole house.

WiFi is not a binary works/does not work technology. It usually needs a lot of tailoring.
Remeber that WiFi is a wave that has to travel through obstacles and metal and glass are do not play fair that game. Even invisible chimney pipe could block signal. Big metallized areas do block or reflect signal. Glass has ver high density and it blocks signal much, much more than concrete.
On the other hand you should remeber that signal strength is not the same as signal quality. It's not only the matter of having "loud" AP signal but the proper one.
