Router dies as soon as I connect the network.

Hi guys, today I experienced a very bad part of mikrotik router, I was trying to replace a router by mikrotik, sothat I can manage the network better, so the situation is simple :

1 internetcafe with 9 pc’s on one side 8 pc’s for customers us 1 pc as a server station with CyberCafe Pro on it. basicly standart XP pc’s. nothing special.
and 1 more pc for use in the shop by shop manager.

so we talking here about 9 pc’s.
further a DVR is on the network which is connected but not streaming anything.
net map :

1thompson 7xx VDSL2 modem router with 8mb speed from ISP > 1 SiteCom basic wired router bought for 20euro > 1 switch from TPLINK 24 port new > utp cables from switch to all pc’s
the shop pc is connected directly by a utp to the sitecom router.

so now the problem :

As soon as I disconnect the sitecom router and in place of it put Mikrotik , mikrotik dies.
Pc’s are unable to get IP. even with static IP on pc no contact. I can see it’s fisically connected.
but there are no packets received.
This same happens if I put all network directly to the lan ports of the ISP Thompson modem/router.
But as long as the network goes true the sitecom, everything works fine.

You would ask why did i try to replace the sitecom? because I wanted to use the mikrotik to monitor the whole network
to try to find out why the sitecom router can handle the network and modem/router not.
So with big hope and pride I connected the mikrotik  and it died on me too.

now any ideas why this can happen ?

I had only one possibility in my head, looping ? but there is no loop in the cables, I have connected all of them one by one.
So and then the question comes why sitecom ? maybe it has builtin STP ? but mikrotik does too.

any ideas guys ? what can it be ?

You have not given us any idea of what configuration you have on the Routerboard so it is hard to comment!

RouterOS supports stp on its own bridges but if you are using the hardware switch on the chip I think it does not.

If you can upload the output from /export compact we can comment on the configuration.

The router is configured as a standart router, with not extra specials, just hard reset, then enabled dhcp on ISP side and lan.
disabled WIFI cause we do not need second one, and mikrotiks wifi does not work well anyway.
so the config is just basic.

Well either you have a hardware issue, a physical connection issue or a config issue. The easiest one to check remotely is the config which is why I suggested that you upload it. That along with a note of which ports are connected to what would let us comment.

You dont understand, maybe I wrote it not clearly, this mikrotik is working fine in my office for example.

we do not have any problems here.

but specific on that location it does not work. While sitecom 20 euro router does.

So I’m sure that there is something that creates a very big amount of wrong packets or traffic, maybe virus,
that’s why the modem Thomson and also the mikrotik cannot handle it, but I’m surprised that such a advanced mikrotik also fails.

No it was not clear that the unit was working elsewhere.

The setup may not be working but so far there isn’t any evidence that the Mikrotik unit has “failed”. If there is a traffic storm it would be evident if you monitor the interfaces.

The shortest path to an answer is to examine the installation and configuration and look for any unusual performance stats on the unit.

how can I monitor it if the router becomes unreachable ?

I’m planning to go back there and just start adding devices one by one, maybe one of them has problem on the ether port.

Sounds like a plan … I would be surprised if a 20 EUR router had STP on its switch - can probably be checked on their web site. Note my comment earlier about the chip switch in the Mikrotik unit - I don’t see any STP settings on those either.
