Router & hotspot

Dear All…

  • Is that possible to have router with hotspot in 1 computer ?

  • I have 3 interface public, local & hotspot. Is is ok if local & hotspot interface in 1 switch ? do I need to use vlan ?

  • Any of you have problem with mikrotik if running router & hotspot in 1 computer ? mine have problem always crash when I’m using winbox to see or change config on mikrotik router

Thank you for your kind attention & help.

I have a 3 nic test system, the hotspot is a 10.5.50.1 IP scheme, the private system is on 192.168.2.1.
I only have one PC on the private network, I’m using a crossover cable to the nic. My Linksys AP and the hotspot nic run into a 4 port switch.
I have nat setup so that I map a public IP address to the PC on the private network to control it via VNC. The public nic goes to a hub hooked to my DSL modem.
I don’t have any users other than myself so I can’t say what kind of horsepower would be needed to run a heavily loaded system.
I did a basic hotspot install first and then added the 3rd nic and assigned it’s IP address.
I added a second masquarede rule for the 192.168.2.0 network and a dst-nat rule for the IP mapping, other than that I think it’s pretty straight forward rules.
I also added a second DHCP server for the private nic, gateway 192.168.2.1

What motherboard are you using ? seems like Asus motherboard is not compatible with Mikrotik.. already swap 3 Asus motherboard, winbox still crash mikrotik. I will plan to change motherboard with other brand.

Thank you for your reply..

I don’t know what motherboard I have, it’s a cheap clone from Fry’s.

Is there a problem if I use the same switch for hotspot interface & local interface ? because some ppl tell me that I have to put hotspot on different switch.

Thanks
