Router OS 7 on RBD52G-5HacD2HnD (hAP ac^2)

I would like to install Wireguard on my hAP ac^2. I an on Router OS 6.49.

Can I updated to Router OS 7 on this device without breaking existing functionality or experiencing problem? I ask because whenever I choose the option to update, by default, I am always presented with the 6.x versions.

Thanks

If you use built-in ROS updater, then you have to change channel to “upgrade”. It’ll then upgrade version to (I guess) 7.12.x (and revert channel to “stable”). After upgrading to 7.12.x, you can further upgrade to newer version (7.15.x) by simply re-running upgrade).

If you follow this path, then your device will end up using legacy wireless driver as separate package but otherwise the configuration will stay the same. You can, optionally, decide to replace wireless with wifi-qcom-ac, which makes wifi much better at expense of using more permanent storage which may potentially lead into various problems (but depends on actual config, run on your device).

I am not familiar with wifi-qcom-ac nor do I fully appreciate the meaning of “as a seperate package” in terms of the router. At the moment I have a very stable SOHO network with VLANS. If I update to v7 can I downgrade to v6? Is there a tutorial I can follow / read or would posting my configuration allow others to help me?

Thanks

Downgrade is nearly as easy as upgrading: you have to manually copy the (current) packages to the router en press the downgrade button.
As always, make a complete export (/export file=anynameyoulike) that can be restored any time.
