We received a new router with OS version 6.48. This is higher than the long term release.
Is it ok to use firmware 6.48 with OS version lower than that?

I don’t think you can downgrade below factory firmware version.
Yes, is possible, check under system / resource what factory RouterOS version are supported
You can not use older than this version.
system / routerboard display BIOS version, not Software version.
System Packages: RouterOS, Operative System / Software.
System Routerboard: RouterBOOT, BIOS / Firmware.
Can be mixed, but BIOS can not be lower than system / routerboard / factory firmware
and the Software can not be lower than system / resource / factory software
I’m not sure why a unit would ship with higher than long term release?
Is it OK to have firmware that is higher than software?
What does the firmware actually do?
Can someone please clarify if it is ok to have a firmware higher than a software version?
Thanks.
I am unaware of the different drug capable/capacity qualities of RoS.
Sometimes I get cross-eyed when looking at MT scripts, but that is not ‘pleasureable’
Do you mean to state newer versions, or later versions?
In the MT vernacular one talks about :“latest” stable version, and the long-term version
for example, the unit shipped with a firmware higher than the long-term software, like I said above.
We want to use long term, but we cannot put the firmware back to the long-term version.
So, the firmware will be on a higher version than the software.
I want to know if this is ok.
To clear this out: is it factory firmware/software or current firmware/software higher then long-term version?
The factory firmware is higher than long term. I’ve tried to downgrade it, but it does not allow it.
Wait for a few weeks and some ROS/firmware version higher than your factory version will become long term.
Then I think it won’t let you downgrade the software lower than factory software as well.
But if it does, just use factory firmware - it is probably the same firmware anyway, with only the number changed.
ok, but back to my question…
Is it ok to use firmware that is a higher version than software?
Will it negatively affect anything?
You already have the answer on 3rd post!!!
Can be mixed<<<
and for 2nd question: NO
RouterBOOT BOOT the system, is the BIOS of computer, and RouterOS is the… OS…
OK! Thanks for helping. I just wanted to make sure!
