router replacement

Hello,

I want to replace an old DLink business router with a mikrotik router.
On the old one there are a lot of rules (LAN, DMZ1, DMZ2).

That the work is not interrupted for long time I thought I connect the new one to the modem and then I connect the old DLink router to the mikrotik. Can I set a rule on the mikrotik that the whole traffic will be forwared to the old DLink router (a kind that the mikrotik router is in transparent mode and the DLink get all requests from outside) while I configure the DMZ1, DMZ2, and so on?

Is this possible?

King Regards
Alex

Yes it is. You can use the router in bridge mode or as switch if it is equipped with switch chip. But you should rather try to configure it and if you fail then put back the old router and return back to try it again when you learn what was wrong.

This sounds perfectly.

I have a RB2011. Where can I find a tutorial for the bridge mode?

Can I set one of the ports to bridge mode and on the second switch (5 gigabit ports) can I configure the DMZ while the rest works over the old DLink router?

There is wiki documentation with examples, you should read it. I don’t know any step by step tutorial that would show you how to set exactly your configuration. Read about bridges and switches and then try it.

Do you mean this website?
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Interface/Bridge
But there I can’t find any examples for my problem. :frowning:

There are clear examples how to make bridge. I told you that I don’t know any step by step guide for your exact situation but I am sure you can try and learn…

thx, it worked.

if you are replacing some dlink DFL firewall take in mind replacing it for a mikrotik more powerfull device

Yeah, I think the RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN is a good successor product for the Dlink DFL firewall product.

what reference of DFL are you replacing??

DFL-700 to RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN

ftp://ftp.dlink.de/@archive/datenblatt/DFL-700_datasheet_engl.pdf

The DFL has problem with Docsis 3.0 cable modem - it only works up to 35Mbps stable - now at 150Mbps downstream I decided to buy a new router.

totally agree i have tested the rb2011 vs DFL 860E and the rb2011 its slightly superior in throughput

even on IPSEC sha1 aes-128

i think hEX its a good replacement for a DFL 860E being superior at a fraction of price and without limitation on vlan count etc etc

i think ccr1009 its a good replacement being superior to a dfl 1660
i think ccr1016 its a good replacement being superior to a dfl 2560

The DFL products were good products (my DFL-700 ran 11 years).
But the RouterOS has more features and it’s better to configure than a OpenWrt based Firewall.

I only miss the OpenVPN UDP and compression feature in RouterOS. :frowning:

yes, i have many dfl deployed running many years but its over-priced, mikrotik makes viable for many small business to have a well performing router

Nevertheless a pity that the DFL product line was abandoned. :frowning:
