Router reset not working: couldnt reset configuration-not permitted(9)

Hello sirs,

I m trying to recover a hacked microtik router. Here are my observations:

  1. I can only login via Winbox >> neigbhors… as my normal user ‘admin’…in the “write” group
  2. Via winbox >> terminal, the welcome screen shows 'Device hacked …"
  3. In system >> user list, I can see an extra user “system” in the “full” group. This user is not deletable, while I’m 'admin".
  4. As admin, if I try to reset the configuration via terminal, I get the error “not enough permissions (9)”. Doing the same via system-menu>>reset configuration, I get the same error “couldnt reset configuration-not permitted(9).”
  5. Resetting via the reset button in front panel is also not working.

Pls help
regards
Tokunbo

Have you tried netinstall?

Look in System → Routerboard → Settings for Reformat Hold Button value.
Then reset your router.

If reset doesn’t work go for netinstall…
What is your ROS version ?

In case protected-routerboot is on netinstall won’t work.

In case it is on it can be disabled
Write permissions will work just fine…

Ok, then
