Hey, really scared as I type this because the equipment that I am mentioning in this post belongs to my employer.
I hope for the sake of my job that the equipment isn’t completely damaged.
First off the device ID is Metal 2SHPn.
We have a tiny cafe and bought the router to provide a Hotspot that we plan to charge customers per day, week, month access plans.
Here’s what I did:
First I downloaded and copied the files /routeros/6.39.1/all_packages-mipsbe-6.39.1.zip onto the router using winbox.
Then I let the router reboot, this time when the router showed up in winbox there were two entries of it, one having the original mac and ip and another with an ipv6 address.
I logged in setup a DHCP client and disconnected the Ethernet cable from the tower of my PC and plugged it into our switch.
When the device powered on, I went to system and attempted to do a automatic upgrade to which I was prompted that the system was up to date.
I noticed that winbox was still displaying the old version number rather than 6.39.1 and figured that I needed to install routeros/6.39.1/routeros-mipsbe-6.39.1.npk as well so I went ahead and did so by copying it to in via the files menu in winbox, and rebooted.
As a result of doing so, the router no longer boots and appears to be dead.
Can someone please tell me if the device is bricked or can I recover it and how can I do so?
I should also mention that I have tried to put the device into netinstall mode several times. I have attempted doing so in the following way.
Using a scissors I pressed the reset button and then inserted the Ethernet cable which provides power to the device. I wait for the led to start and then stop blinking, once it’s stopped, I release the reset button. I have done this many times and also tried pressing the reset button right after the device has booted, and waiting for the same led indicators I mentioned, before releasing the reset button.
I would really appreciate the help, I don’t want to be fired!
