router upgrade failure

The router is currently running 7.1beta6. I upgraded it to “development” to get the wireguard. I want to upgrade it to the latest os version (7.1.1). I did the usual SYSTEM | PACKAGE | DOWNLOAD and INSTALL through the web interface. It rebooted but the OS stays the same at 7.1beta6 after reboot.

I found “kernel failure in previous boot” in the Log.

I also see the following info is in the web routerboard page:

Model RB3011UiAS
Revision r2
Serial Number E14F0D54BB6B
Firmware Type ipq8060
Factory Firmware 6.45.9
Current Firmware 6.45.9
Upgrade Firmware 7.1beta6

My questions are:

  1. do I need to upgrade the firmware before upgrading to the latest 7.1.1?
  2. what am I missing to upgrade it to the latest os version?

I upgraded the mikrotik firmware to match the os version (7.1beta6).

After a reboot, I used the webui to upgrade the os to 7.1.1. After a reboot, it reverted back to 7.1beta6 with the same kernel log memory error. Anything else I should do? Thanks.

Reinstalling with Netinstall has helped me in numerous cases when router is rebooting because of a kernel failure.

I wish I saw the reply earlier. I will try it this weekend. Thanks.
