Router vs AP

Hi !

I want to purchase a Mikrotik device for a small apartment. Sorry if the question sounds stupid, but I could not find the information I need.

The traditional network setup is a regular router plus an AP for the wirless capabilities only. However, a lot of the Mikrotik APs appear to support the full RouterOS operating system at license level 4.

What is the difference between a Mikrotik router vs a Mikrotik AP if both support the same OS ? Doe that mean that the APs have the same capabilities as the routers, but maybe trading a bit of CPU/RAM for better wirless capabilities ? Will I have the full capabilities of the OS if I buy just a Mikrotik AP without a router ?

Thank you !

There is no difference. AP is simply a router with a WiFi device and antennas. The software is the same.
Any of the hAP series devices will be great for an apartment. Just plug the ISP cable into the first port and set a wifi password, no other devices needed.

Thank you for the quick response !

I’ll be purchasing one soon.
