i am noobie so maybe you can help. i have just bought microtik router board 1000. unpacked, turned on, connected to PC’s LAN card, but it does not get IP ( by the DHCP). it starts with two beeps(one shorter another a bit longer) blue led is on, the green one not. is there anything wrong with it? how do i start it propertly?
RouterBoards ship with a blank configuration unless your dealer or distributor installs his own configuration.
They are easy to configure once you get a little experience.
First download the winbox configuration tool from http://www.mikrotik.com/download.html
After you run this on your PC, click on the … to the left of the Connect button.
Then left click on the mac address of your router and login with ‘admin’ and no password.
You will see how easy it is to configure through the Winbox menus.

Is there a DHCP server running?
Download “WinBox” from mikrotik.com and connect to it via. the MAC!
Set a IP and take it from there…
