Routerboard 1100AH static IP - does neither ping nor access

Hello,

I have a new routerboard 1100AH with RouterOS 5.8

I can access it over serial, then i did run:

/ip address remove 0 #to remove the default IP
/ip address add address=91.227.204.205/24 interface=ether1 comment=“default configuration” #to add my new IP
#this should be correct, ether1 is connected to a switch connected to a cisco router which is the gateway for this IP space (.1 is the gateway)
#we do not have DHCP as this is a datacenter enviroment
/ip firewall nat print #is empty

I can however not access it by the IP, neither by Web nor Winbox or SSH and telnet - it does not even ping.
However, the Board seems to be aware that it got the IP, because inside the same vlan it replies to arping with its MAC address of ether1 for this IP once i run the add command

So yes, i am kinda lost now - any help? :frowning:

Thanks,
William

Make sure you are plugged into the correct Ethernet port. If you have a cable plugged into the Ethernet port, you should be able to run /interface print and if the interface is up and running, it will have an R besides it.

Yes, as it arpings it must be connected right - ether1 also shows the R.
Still… no access at all

Are you plugged directly into Ether1 with your computer, or going through a switch? You mention VLANs, so a clearer picture of your network would be useful to isolate the issue.

Ehter1 is plugged into the lan that routes the IP that is assigned to ehter1 - It is a flat L2 network, Gateway is on .1, Netmask is /24 / .0.

So technically this setup should be correct, but it does not seem to work at all.

Like I said, provide a network diagram, and preferably the output of “/export compact” and people can take a look at it. Without enough information, at best we are just shooting in the dark.

Well:

Uplink A Uplink B
| |
Cisco BGP AS57169
|
24Port Switch in flat Layer2 network
|
Routerboard ether1

The RouterOS on this one cannot do compact export it seems, so here is the complete one:

Where are you trying to ping the router from? From within the same subnet, or on the other side of the Cisco router? Currently it does not have a default route, so it can only reply to pings that are from the same subnet as itself. Without a default route it doesn’t know how to reach any other subnets.
