routerboard 200 and 500 in a pair

Seems one of mine RB200 has burn’dout.
Is it possible to run wirless link using RB200 on one side and RB500 on other side? Or should I better change on both sides RB500?
Link is 7km, wirless cards R52

of course it is possible!

Hello all,
I have a question. What is the difference in speed if he uses two rb500s?
I’m asking because I have a lot of wraps and rb230s as APs. Also I have wraps, rb230s, rb511s and rb532s as client units.
I can only get 18.5 to 19.5 mbps.
I’ve not done any testing with rb500s as APs so I’m wondering if the slower boards are cutting down extra bandwidth I should have.
What is the best speed I could see from a rb500 board linking to another rb500?

Hi Jobber.

Check this : http://www.mikrotik.com/Documentation/wireless_test.pdf

//Rickard

That is odd.
There must be a problem with the bandwidth tester on these units because all I can get is a max of 19.5mbit.
Is the BandwidthTester a bad way to test the link speed?
I will run a test from the remote admin PCs at the bottom of each tower to see if there is a big again in speed.

If using bandwidth tester to determine the speed of a link, NEVER run it on the endpoints of the link themselves - at least not on low-processing-power models as the RouterBoards are. The bandwidth test itself is creating so much cpu load that this will give you false results. Always test from a machine behind the router to another machine behind the other end of the link.

This is not necessarily true for machines like 2 GHz Pentium 4 beasts, but that’s another story…
