Routerboard 230, ping probem with 87meters ethernet cable

Hi All,

I have a Routerboard 230 using Mikrotik active power over ethernet pack. I use it for base station radio with omni, the problem is that the ping to the Routerboard breaks , all replies that go through are at a max of 9ms then it breaks (time outs ) twice , and at times more for every 5 - 10 replies. The ethernet cable length from power over ethernet to routerboard is 87meters.
My questions is , what is wrong? is the ethernet cable at 87meters too long?

thanks will appreciate help on this.

You should go to the menu:
interface ethernet

and then set the long-cable parameter for the interface used.

I too have this problem and I looked for the setting you are talking about but I do not see any such setting. What is this long-cable parameter you are talking about? Can you please give more info?

It is in “/interface ethernet” menu. See http://www.mikrotik.com/docs/ros/2.8/interface/ethernet.main for more info…

Good old winBox cant do it again. Damn GUIs!
Terminal shows it.
Tahnks!

Now I ask you something did you conect the cable direct to the computer or in hub or switch because I have the same problem some weeks ago and after change the switch and bought a beter one it works perfect
