Routerboard 433AH with two R52n reboots

Hi folks,

I have a Routerboard 433ah with two R52n. One is configured for bridge / NV2 with another routerboard over 5ghz A. The other is configured for AP on 2ghz. When there gets to be a bit of traffic (about 20mb a second on one, and 50mb a second on the other) the router likes to reboot by itself. No idea why it does that – there is really nothing in the logs.

The other Routerboard is a 433 with an R52 and is configured in Bridge / NV2 mode.

Both are running 6.0b2 but it has done it on 5.14 as well.

It has an 18v 800ma power supply. Do you guys think that this could be the reason that it likes to reboot? Not enough juice? Any other ideas? What to enable to figure this out?

Thanks in advance for the help.

You could try a bigger power supply of you have one available.

Thanks for the reply. Any idea what the power requirements are for a 433AH with two cards in it? I don’t have a larger power supply so I would have to buy one from monoprice or somewhere … Before buying one I want to buy the correct one.

Hello.
r52n 2,4W x 2 is 4,8w for cards + 433ah 25W = 29,8W

Your power supply have only 18V x 800m = 14,4W. It is not enough!

You need power supply 30W it is 28V 1,1A or 24V 1,5A

I’m amazed it works at all

Thanks for the info. One big power supply on the way.

Power consumption ~3W without extension cards, maximum – 25 W, 16W output to cards that means 25-16=9w max for the routerboard alone
so let’s do the math again:
r52n 2,4W x 2 is 4,8w for cards + 433ah 3 to 9w = max 13.8w

Your power supply have only 18V x 800m = 14,4W. It is enough!
To be sure use 24v/1A.

You’re probably right. Anyway, the actual power supply is “not much”
We can calculate the loss of POE

exactly, you should take length of the wire and into account too, as with ~0.7A load there can be quite decent power loss over the cable.
