I have a routerboard 532 with with 2pcs 400mW cards . This works perfect with 48v POE kit but when i when i decided to power via battery bank (12v 200Amp Deep cycle ) the board lights came on, but timed out and i could not log in.
I need to power this site by battery , does anyone have solutions on how to get this to work.
Please note the battery powers the board perfectly when i use a 65mW or 100mW card. So i am figurring it may be current draw and what the battery can supply. The cable length test was with 5ft and with 200ft
Could you chain 4 batteries together to get a 48v source & try it that way?
Pushing 2 400mW radios on 12v involves a good bit of amperage going down the cable, and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the voltage drop was enough to keep things from working properly.
I just don’t think MT hardware works well with 2 400mw cards. I can’t get a RB112 to boot reliably at all with 1 sr5. cm9 works fine. I can’t get rb532 to work reliably on 48v with 2 sr5, and not at all on 12v. Get a second MT for the second card, or use lower power radios and bigger antennas.
Hi guys thank for the sugeestions. Yes i set the jumper settings ok. Sorry i cannot use 48v battery setup to many battery, and 48v battery chargers are expensive. Finally i use 400mW 802.11/A/B/G card from Senao (http://www.senao.com) they are beautiful babies when power is manually set to 26dBm. I have them (2pcs)working perfectly in RB532 using 48v POE kit. My main aim is to fully utilise the RB532, hence having to use two RB532 with one 400mW card each is a waste of resources. Also this is for remote base station/repeater with little or no mains power avialable there.Thats why the battery powerring is important to me.
I intend to run a test with 24v battery bank, i think that should work.
I run almost all of my RB500 series on 12v. Set to POE cable run 5m or so cat5e, 12v battery bank @ 800Ah capacity. Solar charger. 2x SR2 works fine. All sites have more than 1 RB.
I have these combos
512 2xSR2
532 1xSR2 + 1xSR5
532 1xSR2 + 1x200mw Prism
532 2xSR2 (one wound down) + CM9
Uptime: 121d 07:40:10 (thats when it last had a update)
I run all my base stations on 12v and have two solar powered sites. both solar sites are running RB532 & daughter board with 4 x CM9 cards. They run fine on one 80watt 12v panel & 230AH battery
I use steca (sometimes known as BP solar) regulators
They start at 10A which is fine. A small tip dont put the load through it
These are a good little unit for the price.
I connected 532 via POE with utp cable almost 50 meters and it works nice.
Then I connected it to a standard UPS (800VA), also adding a ADSL modem’s adapter … UPS won’t work at all - when main power fails (I pull the plug:)) UPS powers off imediately…
