RouterBoard 912 3G modem will not connect

I have a RB912UAG-2HPnD: RouterBoard 912 that I am trying to connect a 3G modem to. The modem is a Huwei E173 which is on the supported hardware list.

The routerboard finds the USB modem OK and I have entered the correct details for my provider as I have connected using them and the SIM in another 3G router.

Attached is the sequence I get. The modem connects and authenticates however it is looking for a peer when I have not asked it to connect to anything. It seems to connect however it immediately disconnects for no readily apparent reason.

Attached is a screenshot of the logfile.

disable dial-on-demand option and will always keep the connection when the interface will be enabled.

Dial on Demand is disabled. I have further isolated the problem down to an LCP Echo Request not being answered as in the attached screen shot.

I know the ISP is correctly responding to LCP echo requests as the modem will dial up and connect OK in any other system including a $12.00 MiFi.

Why should the routerboard not respond correctly? I have tried all possible combinations of data channels.

In your first post though, the last log entry says the modem has connected…

My 4G USB modem does that echo thing too sometimes. I just leave it or disable then enable the PPP interface again. Not sure why it happens.

pplease make sure you have upgraded the RouterOS to v6.13 and also upgraded the BIOS to v3.14 and then check again.

Upgraded the firmware and RouterOS and it worked perfectly - thank you

I now have full connectivity with the E173
