RouterBoard and Proxy Server Networking Question

Hi,

I have a RB532 and a server that I want to do transparent proxying on. In the manual it says i should use the RB to route between the internet and my local network, thats easy enough.

But should I put my proxy inbetween the RB and my local network? If I do that how should I configure the network interfaces on the proxy server?

I’d appreciate some advice.

Thanks.

crocks21,
can you give more information about your scenario ?

  1. Yes, you are able to create ‘transparent-proxy’ in the router.
  2. It’s possible to redirect proxy requests to ‘parent-proxy’.

I am wanting to run Dansguardian content filtering, but I do not want it to be bypassed, hence I want it to be transparent. I will have SME server running as a server/gateway with Squid and Dansguardian.

Thanks.

Crocks21, I guess, that ‘parent-proxy’ is the feature that you need ?!
That will redirect proxy request to upper-proxy.

And where will I find “parent Proxy”?

What if I setup my SME Server as a Bridge with proxy ARP, eth1 10.0.0.1 an eth2 10.0.0.2 would that work?

  1. ip (web-)proxy set parent-proxy=;

  2. More information required to get your idea.

use transparent proxy - forward all the requests to 80 to your proxy and do there anything you want and nobody can bypass you, except they conenct on other port
