Routerboard hangs if AP set to G and Station set to B

Why does the routerboard hang if for example the AP is setup in 802.11g mode and the Station is setup in 802.11b mode and visa versa ?
I have not tested this on the wireless package only wireless-legacy and have noticed that wireless has an option for 802.11b/g mode. I unfortunately cannot run wireless as I have some links on 5.8Ghz and my throughput drops very low when I run on wireless.

Could you send more info about your setup to support@mikrotik.com?
What version of the RouterOS have you used with regular wireless package (not legacy) and you got low throughput on 5Ghz?

My config is very simple, from factory default state config is as follows:

AP

ether1 10.1.1.1
wlan1 192.168.1
mode=ap bridge
ssid=boo
frequency=2472
band=2.4Ghz-G

Station

ether1 10.1.2.1
wlan1 192.168.2
mode=station
ssid=boo
frequency=2472
band=2.4Ghz-G

I setup the routing between to 2 ethernet networks and everything work fine as soon as I change the band on either the AP or the Station the routerboard no longer responds to pings on the local ethernet or wireless side and the wireless interface drops. The minute that I change the mode back then it works perfectly. I have also noticed that if you wait long enough (really long) then the router eventually comes up again. It is not a major problem for me but when I do a new installation I always select 802.11g because of the speed benefits but depending on factors such as inteference I often need to change the link over to 802.11b and this is where it becomes anoying.

I tested non legacy on ver 16,17,18,19,20 and had issues with low throughput on 5.8G links that were fast on legacy, as soon as I reload legacy the problem is solved. I have read of many people on the forum having exactly the same throughput issues as me when loading non legacy wireless, is this problem going to be solved in version 2.9 ?

Thanks

The configuration will not help us to detect the problem, we need support output file.
You need to try latest version of the RouterOS, currently 2.8.22 which has no known issues for low throughput on 5Ghz. If you are using Atheros 5213 chipset then it had troubles in older versions if the RouterOS, but all that is fixed in the latest release. Please install latest version of the RouterOS and then send us the support output file when you see low throughput.

Hi Uldis

I will change one of my live links over to 2.8.22 non legacy today and test the throughput on 5.8Ghz, if there are no issues then I will upgrade our entire backbone and test the b/g issues.

Will keep in touch.

Hi Uldis, 2.8.22 non legacy works 100% with a,b,g.

Thanks
