I’ve got couple of RB 512 and 532 with licenses level 4 and 5 and upgrade to 2.9.12.
2nd I need to make a link (5 km) for optic backup and 2nd route for now (I need more trafic and the optic won’t be upgrade very fast).
I use 2 RB512 + SR5s. I’ve got:
signal-strength: -49dBm
noise-floor: -95dBm
signal-to-noise: 46dB
tx-ccq: 98%
Nstream is enabled 5ghz-turbo.
I used to work with x86 PCs, soo I think main problem is with CPU power on RB.
I can transfer max 25 mbits (real trafic). And max 4000 packets per second.
Can you give me advices ?
3. I know that I can overclock MIPS CPU to 400 MHz, but there is caution that proccessor could not work very well. What is the main reason? Temperature, not enought voltage, or just the CPU could be from bad shipment (I haven’t try it yet). Have you try to user radiator or vent for heat dispartion? Will the RB with 64 RAM work better (I see that in resources the cpu is over 85 % but the ram isn’t used at all).
4. The link is WDSed . Will it work better with routing?
Well, actually I think that you won’t get more out of RB500 than you have. NStreme is quite CPU-intensive…
Some tests I did yesterday with a pair of RIC/522 running 5 GHz (non-turbo), NStreme and WPA2 with AES encryption gave a max. UDP throughput of between 22 and 26 MBit/s. The CPU was maxed out and clearly the limiting factor in this setup.
If you need more bandwidth (especially using NStreme), I think that you will have to go for more CPU power (like a Pentium-M or such…).
Where will be ready the test site conf. from MUM? :} I want to see the magic. Is WDS soo much CPU hungry than routeing ?
P.S. Until now 5ghz-turbo, connection tracking - off, wds connection 2.9.12 - 33 mbit/s real traffic. Next step cut out everything I don’t need - dhcp, hotspot, webproxy-test, ppp. What about security if I use only telnet, is it unnesecery ?
