RouterBoard RB411 damaged?

Hi everyone,

I’ve got a question. Yesterday we received a RB411 from a customer of us. If I plug in the power supply the 4 green LED will constantly light up, but I don’t hear the beep. Even the serial-console doesn’t show anything. It doesn’t work at all. Is someone of you familiar with this behaviour?

Attached you will see a picture of the RouterBoard with the 4 glowing LED.

remove the wireless card. still the same? then try to hold the small button while turning it on, see if behavior changes.

I had one of these too.

I took it out of a CPE, and replace it, tried it at the shop, and saw what you see, just assumed it bad and set it on the desk.

Week later for kicks I plugged it in and it booted fine. So, I dunno. I dont trust it, but acts like maybe bad capacitor or something.

Those in the picture don’t look bad. It simple died from overheating.

it’s very possible to get to this state if the wireless card has certain damage

Hi,

I removed the wireless card and it still has the same behaviour. I pressed the “reset”-button at start-up and nothing happened.

The customer painted the CPE-enclosure black. Do you think this could cause an overheat damage?

Regards

It could also be some other damage, anyway, you need to replace the device.

Yes, occured because of overheating!

P.S. Siemens give warranty for their devices only if the working temperature didn’t exceed 40 (Celsius). I guess there is some reason for that. Their PLC components have similar parts to RouterBoards (CPU,RAM,Flash), but work for many many years.

I guess the price is not similar though
