Routerboard Suggestion Home User

Hello All;

Long time reader 1st time poster. I was wondering if anyone can help me out with what product I should purchase. I’m looking to get a more robust, reliable, upgradable router / wireless for my house, Currently Using an Old Dlink + a Linksys with DDWRT as a repeater upstairs. here’s my setup

25 Mbps Cable Modem -->> Vonage Router -->> 3 year old Dlink wireless Router with 1 WAN / 4 LAN 10/100 Ports

Port 1 – Gig Server running Windows 7 (main machine for downloads)
Port 2 – 10/100 Network Tivo
Port 3 – Gig laptop Downstairs
Port 4 – Gig Network Storage Server (holds movies,music and backups)

Upstairs I have a 1 WAN / 4 LAN Linksys connected to the downstairs wireless in bridge mode

Port 1 Gig Windows 7 Mediacenter (plays DVD, Blue Ray, Netflix, etc..)
Port 2 10/100 Network Tivo

Now from reading up here and looking at the routerbaord site here’s what I was thinking

I could get an RB493 + add wireless and I then get One device with 9 ports (can plug in all my devices) but I loose out on the Gig connections (which I dont have now since the router’s are 10/100)

The second option would be to get an RB750G and a RB 433 + wireless. This gives me Gig downstairs and I could hardwire the 433 wan to the 750G and hook up the two upstairs devices to the 433 @ 100Mbit right? Something like

Cable Modem -->> 750G -->> Vonage / other devices ports 1-3, port 4 Run cable to 433 WAN -->> 433 2 ports upstairs devices

Suggestions?

Thx!

you can also get RB450 (or RB700(G)) and RB411AR for AP - having two devices you will have more freedom to play with mikrotik :slight_smile:

I think Im leaning towards the 450G price and features wise it’s better than a 750G, and keep my modded Linksys as an AP for now
