RouterOS 3.x + disable-running-check

Why disable-running-check (at least on ethernet interfaces) is not available in RouterOS version 3.x ?

Disable-running-check is available for x86 boxes. There is no such option for the RouterBOARD, are there any reason why do you need this option ?

Well, there WAS such option on RB actually…

This option is extreemly helpfull, if you’re monitoring your network…

How is it helpful [when all the time you have ‘R’ on the interface, despite of the state] ?

Now, ‘R’ is changing, when link is ok or no-link.

Let’s say we have 2 routers.
One of them (1) is for 1 client with one PC connected directly to router.
Second (2) is for small network with switch connected to the router.

Can you guess the difference?
Let’s play a little.

Suppose both routers has disable-running-check=no.

(1) If client will turn off his PC, then I’ll have notification in monitoring system, that something is wrong (since interface on router coming to client’s PC will be DOWN).
(2) Since there is a switch connected to the router, we suppose, that it must work 24/7. So if interface status is DOWN, then it could mean, that there is a problem with a cable or switch itself.

Don’t you think, that setting disable-running-check to yes on (1) could help us to prevent false positives?

Yes, I understand that situation. Is it possible to monitor IP address of the router, not the interface state ?

WAN --- ether1 - ROUTER (NAT) - ether2 --- LAN

Monitoring only IP address won’t help you, if something wrong with a cable or switch or port itself on ether2 side…

Can you tell me the way, how you monitor by ‘R’ letter ?

‘R’ letter is not the key – the key is SNMP…
