RouterOS 5.2 on x86 with AR9271 (TP-LINK TL-WN722NC)

Interested in AR9271 support and tested the following configuration:

RouterOS v5.2 on x86 with TP-LINK TL-WN722NC 802.11b/g/n USB stick.

  1. configured as “Station PsuedoBridge” works fine. See third figure.

Connection failed when mode switched to “Station PsuedoBridge Clone” or “Station Bridge”. See first two figures. Overtime, RouterOS console hang.

The AP is a rb532 running RouterOS v5.2 with Wistron DNMA92.

Is this bug or limitation?

  1. swaped role of AR9271 and rb532, that is, AR9271 configured as “AP Bridge” and rb532 as “Station PsuedoBridge Clone”. Created traffic load on wireless link max out 20-24Mbps, connection die after 10-20 minutes without any log message.

Hot unplug USB stick and then hot insert, connection re-established and worked fine for another 10-20 minutes then die again.

AR9271 AP mode is unstable.

Testing of RouterOS 5.2 in VM under VirtualBox 4.0.6 in Windows XP, using AR9271 (TL-WN722NC) USB 2.0 passthru’ed to RouterOS.

Repeat the above testings in virtual hardware and a RB532 with DNMA92.

When both virtual and physical RouterOS were configured as bridge and were connected, access to virtual RouterOS from WinBox in Windows XP was blocked (unreachable). When RouterOSes were disconnected, access to virtual RouterOS from WinBox in Windows XP resumed after a timeout period (~minutes). The symptom is similar to spanning tree loop detection but I have no way to verify this.

When virtual RouterOS was configured as routed instead of bridged, the blockage problem did not happen.

This proof-of-concept test shows potential use of RouterOS in notebook.
