RouterOS 6.1 ALIX board

Hallo, did someone already install 6.1 on Alix board?
I am using netinstall and both 6.0rc9 and 6.1 are giving me trouble. I have picked 38400 baud rate in netinstall for convenience (native rate of Alix) however it must not be correct, as i can’t use serial console: I get gibberish characters. It seems slightly wierd that initial OS loading (beyond the boot, obviously) is visible until initrd, I do not understand why.

Since I have the feeling it might be alive although it looks dead, I have used neighbour viewer and it seems to be alive and visible, it also allows me to login, sort of, username admin and empty password, however then it tells me connection timeout.

Am I making some really stupid mistake?
Or perhaps I could use an older version which certainly works? I have Alix 2D13.

Thank you

i suppose Alix boards do not support RouterOS as it is totally for MIPS boards.

Alix is x86. RouterOS support x86. Alix + v6.1 it works.

normis is the guy you should be talking to at this stage

he is a god!!! normis…you around??

Try other baud rate, if this one gives you gibberish. I have not tried this board with RouterOS v6, so I can’t say for sure.

there as i said… NORMIS!!! is the only one who can help…

and he comes just like GOD would to help his devotee!!!

long live NORMIS!!!

may god bless MIKROTIK!!!

Hi and thank you a lot to everyone.

If I try different setting, for example now I have set 115200, I don’t see anything in Hyperterminal after the initial configuration. If I connect with ethernet cable, neighbour can find, and it allows me to connect, username admin, password empty field, then very quickly (perhaps 5s) it says connection timeout.

I have set the CF card from win 7 ultimate x64, nothing exotic. I downloaded all packages + routerOS and selected all. I will try new CF card later today, it is strange as it is single-layer industrial CF and was new, but everything is possible.

Update:

the netinstall on win7 ultimate x64 can be an issue, and one does not realize it in an obvious manner until quitting. At that point, and no earlier, windows 7 says that this program was not installed using recommended (!?) compatibility settings and asks whether is working correctly or we wish to reinstall. If one reinstalls, then the basic install (i did not try configurations files) goes properly. The CF can be moved in the Alix and booted, then I got periodic gibberish (obviously the prompt at wrong baud rate) at that point I changed baud rate in hyperterminal, mine had fallen back to 9600, perhaps hinting to some incorrect negotiation; now I think a 32 bit machine, if available, is preferable for netinstall. I usually use physdiskwrite when setting up CF cards from that same machine, so I had no clue.
