Is ROS 7.1 (longterm) production-ready software? How about it’s security?
How can I assess the security of my ROS 7.1 router? Is there a system shell (not the normal ROS command line shell - I want to go deeper), so I can look at the process table, see whether the processes are all running as root or not, see which security features are enabled?
ROS is running on top of Linux.
You will never see who is running what as who.
ROS7: There are still some glitches in e.g. some of the routing features, ipv6, … but security wise (i.e. firewall) there are (as far as I could see) no reports made (which does not mean nothing has been reported).
If security and stability is such an important point to you, stick with 6.49.2.
If you need specific features only available in ROS7, setup a lab environment and be prepared to do some rigorous testing there prior to releasing it into your production network.
Otherwise feel free to jump into the pool … the water is great
