This is my first foray into x86 based servers for RouterOS, and I’m not much of a hardware guy…
Has anyone used RouterOS on a Dell PE R310 successfully, or has anyone any insight into whether the chipsets will work well with both 4.x for now and later with 5.x? Processor would be a Xeon 3400 series. It has two internal USB ports so the OS would boot from a USB stick (or an SD/CF card via a USB adapter).
I’d appreciate any input. Server wise we’re a Dell shop, and I need a few pieces of hardware that can do more than the 1,700 concurrent users I can push through a Hotspot on an RB1100.
Thank you very much! That’s very good to know - I can get some R200s for now, and wait for 5.x to go into proper stable and get more 300 series servers.
Simco999, what is your disk configuration on the R310? We tried to get the install to see a RAID1 on an H200 with two SATA drives but it failed as the disks were not seen. I would like to please know your configuration so we can get a booting device. Many thanks for any help, Jeff
Hi I just bought new Dell R310 and attempt to install mikrotik router version 5.17 on it.
First i did burn ISO image into dvd disk and manage to boot from it.
The error that I am facing now is as below:
Looking for harddrives…
FATAL ERROR: no harddrives found
Press ENTER to reboot
During booting period i could see the harddrives being initialize. The harddrives is clean without any OS on it.
We are planning to install solely Mikrotik Router OS on it. Your Reply on this matter really appreciated.
