I have а free hardware by D-link DSL-2640U. Can I reshape that from the routerOS platform ?
No, RouterOS only works on X86 or RouterBOARD™
but why?
d-link has enough platform. And what’s the difference between dlink and RouterBOARD platform?
Completely different hardware, and RouterOS won’t fit in the flash memory either.
That’s like asking “hey why can’t windows 7 run on my mobile phone?”
D-link is crap, live with it 
they use the same hardware chip, for example the AR7240, the big difference is the software, routeros is more complex, routeboard has 2 chips for boot the OS, the bootloader is stored in a 64k eeeprom and a copy in the nand flash. so basically routerboard boots using a “flash drive”

think RouterOS should nearly run only on Routerboards, when there’s no special constelation, a old pc is most time more expensive in view of power an place.
And for so hacks where ROS might run on, I think the are not worth the time, cause so D-Links have less power, and small Routerboards are not so expensive (I some times too cheap, for example the capacitor Problem 
)
RouterBoards are very well priced, so there is no reason to buy inferior products.
RouterOS could run on your Dlink, but i doubt you’ll pay to get it ported.
Bin the dlink (better ebay it) and buy a RouterBoard.
