RouterOS on HP Microserver N40L with RB44Ge

Hello,

I’ve just installed the above PC as a small router (10-50mbps).
Sadly, it’s periodically restarting (rebooting without proper shutdown) - but without leaving supout.
Currently it’s running ROS 5.21
I’m afraid of downgrading 5.18 (i don’t know if it’s supporting the RB44Ge - and it’s not documented) - also 6RC3 - i think it’s not for live environment.

What do you recommend to do with?

at least the RB44Ge is supported by ROS 5.18
fingers crossed.

5.18 also rebooted (could stay for ~3hrs) now trying 6RC3…

Thank you for sharing! I have similar device (N36L) but working only as NAS box using Solaris.
Awhile ago I had similar thoughts to use another box as powerful router using RouterOS but now will probably skip this idea..

But for the subject, have you tried to use the box without the RB44Ge card? I know it is stupid idea since HP MicroServer has only one ethernet port but only to try to localize the problem?

vadyalex: no, not yet. I’m going to test a PCI-E addon nic (some other than RB44Ge, like HP NC112 or Intel NIC)
but for that, i’m going to have another box with RouterOS installed.

What is a shame: Routerboard hardwares are not documented, which is the minimal RouterOS version to run them.
(like for RB2011 something like 5.14 - imagine, what happens when you downgrade the ROS, and your NIC will not be supported…)

and for the archive: 6.0RC3 runs for a lot more, but still rebooting (without generating supout)

the system currently running on a Verbatim 4G USB stick. Maybe this is the problem?

there was a (bad)client requesting DHCP in every minute. After fixing it, uptime was 1 day 9hrs - i don’t know if it’s in connection.
I’ve just run torch - rebooted. We are running 6rc3 now. Ticket opened, reply not received…

Mikrotik: ticket opened 2012111566000421 - almost a week ago.

Maybe the distributor not sent enough details, but you’ve got it above.
I’ve made a supout manually on saturday, after a day uptime. The box restarted after half an hour. Do you need it?
Again: the router reboots without leaving additional info or supout (it’s turned on ofcourse).
Now the uptime is 1day 20hrs - and i don’t have the nuts for running torch or something unless its really needed - afraid of reboot again.

hm. the microserver was replaced with another one.
usb based ROS replaced with SSD based
RB44GE replaced with HP NC360T (dualport, lowprofile server gigE - hell, costed same as Microserver…)

now it’s running since a week without hang (with the same configuration as the other reboots)

the old one works in the office testbench - pulled bandwidth test with ~500mbyte/s tcp for hours
not reboots. seems cannot be reproduces without live traffic???
