I am totaly a mikrotik fan - but I would like to ask what else runs routeros ?
I am not looking to build a desk-top PC or a rack-mount server, I am asking what other boards are there out there which are similar to the RB433AH RB600 or RB800 which are faster and can be mounted in a case behind an AP antenna on a tower. The use would be for heavy loaded APs supporting more than 100 client connections.
I normally use the 433AH boards for my APs. I have had horrible experience with the RB600 platform and had to remove all my RB600 boards because they random reboot. I have read the RB800 may also have problems.
It would be nice to find a really fast board with 3 1-gig Nics and 4 PCI slots.
I am fighting this issue now .. how many of the random reboot boards have you seen? Is this what you see in your logs?
jan/01/1970 16:00:08 system, error, critical System rebooted because of kernel failure
jan/01/1970 16:00:08 system, error, critical router rebooted without proper shutdown, probably power outage
I’m wondering if an atom board would work well. We have some doing radio streaming in the same outdoor boxes as the radios and they’ve survived the rain and 115 degree weather.
yup - seen it with some RB600 boards. And another WISP I know had the same problems with the RB600. They are now wall art in my office and a reminder of things not to purchase.
I have a RB600 from the original manufacturing run, connected to the internet via PPPoE with 3 R52 cards in it, running OSPF, BGP and MPLS for testing. It has been upgraded to every firmware release (including betas and RC’s) for the past 3 years and has not missed a beat.
I think the key is, as Normis said upgrade the bootloader
2 of them had problems and I sended back to the provider. The other 2 are working fine. One with the motherboard and 5 minipci and the other with 2x minipci.
50% bad in my case. Perhaps it was a bad part of boards.. but..
aps.. respect RB800, I selled about 35 units and all are working fine.. don’t seen the heat problem showed in the forum by normis… I think mine are newer boards.
Dear guys!
I also have reboot problem on RB600 and i have tried, as suggest normis, to load firmware 2.27 but problem persist. I think I have to change routerboard with another one or is it possible to solve?
I have also upgraded routerOS to version 5.0rc3.
