RouterOS_x86 + USB + ADSLmodem

I collect the routers on the base PC and wanted connect 1-3 ADSLmodem on USB bus. Possible such decision?
Also, there was extremely comfortable have a possibility in MANUAL WinBox to enter URL address. Flesh and ActiveX there does not need but for governing web interface switch and modem will extremely useful.

At this point, to my knowlage, ADSL via USB is not supported.
You can use ADSL but only by ethernet.

Craig

btw, what ADSL USB modems you use.?We are looking if we need to consider adding support for them or not.

Just about ANY PCI ADSL modem would be acceptable…

There are some from bewan ??? I think… that have Linux drivers…

Craig

Support for USB modems sounds a great idea, because AFAIK it also means less of an “approvals” problem connecting to public telephone lines, assuming the USB modem has approvals already.
Probably depends on the country how strict that is.

I think it would be great because it would enable “one-box” wifi hotspots that connect to the ADSL/telephone line, rather than a 2-box solution.

Just my 1/2pence worth.

This would be a excellent Idea to include this suport..

Speedtouch

USR

Zxyel

I know speedtouch have kernel drivers available…

maybe you know specific model numbers?

Uldis

Speed Touch 330 - http://www.linux-usb.org/SpeedTouch/

Zyxel Prestige 630 - Not sure on Linux Drivers for this one.

USR - http://www.usr.com/support/9000/9000-linux-ug/Installing%20the%20modem.html

Im not sure what is the best, but one of the most common is the SpeedTouch here in the UK.

Ok, we could start with Speed Touch 330. Maybe some of you could provide us with this device, if yes, then please contact to support@mikotik.com - we will also give free licenses those who would help us with this device.

How about the ability to Rebrand, as we used to be able to do???

Then I would send you 2…

Lee

what do you mean by this?

We used to be able to get a package created to change the html landing page of the router with our own contact details and logo.. Linking the license to MT.

Also the ability to rebrand UserManager would be really helpfull

this is available for OEMs and resellers. Contact MT

hey guys,

its been a while since the topic was started.
soo whats the status about USB modem support by mikrotik?

Im mostly interested in support for Speedtouch 330 because npw i have to use ADSL router (which sucks btw) AND then mikrotik box

What about Conexant ADSL USB modem, it’s very popular, cheap, stable, lot of manufacture with many brand (like Atheros).

we had too few requests from our customer about this feature. Also there isn’t many ADSL2 USB modems available.

too few request doesnt mean there arent many
also You could brag about mikrotik supporting usb modems
i think this could get You more customers.

And if You need sagem modems just ask ppl in Cracow, I know they would bring some for testing

cheers

this topic is all we have. you can count if you wish

Suggest anyone who seriously wants/needs this post a “me too” here …
BTW, some of the requests are from volume users - such as a major operator asking for 100’s-1000’s of units with integrated ADSL for backhaul.
But if it isn’t on the immediate road-map, fair enough.

Thinking more about it, the most obvious applications for this are:

  1. Operators deploying WiFi hotspots with integrated ADSL backhaul
  2. Residential/home WiFi routers

I use MT-ROS mostly for site to site VPNs via ADSL

I dial pppoe sessions across bridged adsl modems and then connect PPTP tunnels across that. My clients always ask why the separate modem. I always tell them that there is no product that can be built in yet.

So it’s being asked for…

I have 12 MTs deployed so far and more coming real soon. All of them have ADSL connected like this and I would LOVE to have a mini PCI card or even support for the Broadcom chipsets allowing me to flash a router off the shelf with it.

Please answer us on this MT!
