routing between subnets

Hi,

Have looked through forum and guides but not found a solution to this.

I have 2 seperate subnets in my network and and an internet connection which are configured as follows:

ether1: ISP (dynamic connected to modem/gateway)
ether2: HomeLan 192.168.1.1/24 (connected to switch)
ether4: myLan 172.168.10.1/24 (connected to switch)

Now these subnets both have perfect access to the internet but limited access to each other (they cannot ping each other and cant resolve respective DNS names). So my question is, should they be able to contact each other easily or do they require firewall filter rules or route entries to communicate?

I shud mention that I have entered some firewall filter rules that were in the wiki though I didn’t think that they would affect the LAN subnets and it appears to be more of a routing issue than anything.

Thanks

I should mention I have done some deeper digging in the forum and have found that Windows machines don’t network so well across subnets without a DC which I never realised.

However, if someone has a solution to this it would be greatly appreciated
