routing problem for the FAQ.

hi there,

i have a simple and suppose frequently asked question.
here is a diagram:

and the question is how can 192.168.0.12 (windows xp computer) access to the linux samba server 192.168.1.24 if MT ROS2 is replaced by router that is not MT device.

why would you not want a MikroTik router? and do you really think that the MikroTik forum is the place to ask such a question? I’m sure the folks at MikroTik are going to pipe up: Well if you put a Cisco in place of a Mikrotik you need to do XYZ.

Come on its not the place to asks this. Pleae don’t take offence.

they best way to accomplish this is to put a mikrotik router on each end, and run a EoIP tunnel, then bridge the tunnel to your local ethernet interface on each end, and then you will have a layer 2 connection and be able to operate 192.168.1.0/24 networks on both sides of the link.

hi there,

i know about eoip tunneling, but the side of MT 2 is not mine and the owner wants to replace the router with a linux server. and we both want to access the samba server 192.168.1.24.
that’s the prob.

i am ready to put a new router on the network, but the new scheme is not much clear. not for me.

C. G.

As it looks like you are just doing normal routing and nothing ROS specific, it won’t matter what kind of router you have at the other site.

yes, and there is no way to use samba

I mis-understod your original post, I thought you wanted to run the same subnet (192.168.0.0/24) on both sides of the link, since you’re not, then I was wrong and no, you don’t want a EoIP tunnel.

why not? what does MT have to do with samba? you could replace the MT box with any type of router you want and samba shouldn’t care, as long as you’re correctly routing traffic between the new router and your MT router.
