I have been using STP on my bridged wireless network for about a year now with no problems. About 6 months ago i tried enabling RSTP and the new bridge-test package, and it was not successful. Any system i enabled it on would stop passing ip traffic, and i had to MAC Telnet in to fix the problem. So i went back to using STP and disabled the brige-test package.
I figured after all the recent updates i would give it another shot.
It seemed to work initially, but i had a bunch of systems that exhibited the same problem as before. Some were routerboards and some were PC based. Most of the systems that i could access would only be accessable for about 5 minutes, and they would seem to go down. Watchdog would then reboot them because it couldn’t ping its target (my gateway). Some systems stayed accessable but could only be accessed from certain parts of the network. there was problems everywhere!
I was able to use winbox with the mac addresses of the systems to get back in and set the “mode” parameter to “none” on the bridges. I still had the same problems. I finally used mac winbox to disable the packages completely, the network then stabilized after a short period.
I would really like to use RSTP, but it does not seem to be anywhere near stable… i am using static wds connections between my radios, with manually set path costs (i used the same path cost settings i used with STP) Does anyone have RSTP working?? If so are you having any strange problems? Someone please give me some advice as to how to get this working if it is possible.
Thanks
