RSTP required?

This is more of a general networking question than a RouterOS question, but I hope somebody can help me.

We are monitoring a set of remote devices over a bridge (TAP) OpenVPN setup (see the rough diagram). There is an RB750 running the OpenVPN server and handing out IP addresses. Then some RB411 routers with 3g modules, running OpenVPN clients and bridging the VPN to their Ethernet ports. One monitored device is connected to each RB411 by Ethernet. Finally, their a PC running an OpenVPN client and the monitoring software. This setup works well.

Now for the question: I have enabled RSTP on all the bridge interfaces (on the RB750 and the RB411s). The RSTP broadcasts use about 15MB per RB411 per day, which doesn’t sound like a lot, but 3G data is expensive. Since my setup doesn’t seem to have any loops (if I understand correctly it’s just a tree rooted at the RB750), and the topology doesn’t change often, do I really need RSTP?

Thanks for reading!

RSTP is to stop loops. If you have no loops, then you don’t need STP or RSTP.
