RTS/CTS options in ROS

Hello, folks.

Since I’ve started using MK, I’ve noticed that WinBox doesn’t show RTS/CTS options just like ordinary APs like Zinwell, Ovislink, Edimax, etc.

Well, I’ve never used these settings in those other APs, but I’m curious to know why ROS doesn’t let us change them. It’s some kind of automatic setting or what?

They are in the new wireless test package.

new test package ? means ROS 3.20 ? 3.19 ? other ?
thx

I’m using it in 3.20 - it is a separate download. When you copy it to the RB and restart it automatically begins using it. The implementation of RTS/CTS is by command line only at this time.

Did you see any increase in performance of your wireless links?

I enabled it on my busiest AP which only has around 20 clients connected. I didn’t see any negative effect so I’m assuming it is working correctly.

If you are using N stream the test package greatly improves performance.

I think the point is enabling RTS/CTS on client side. Why? Because when the AP sends a frame, everybody listen to it and wait (CSMA/CA). But when a client wants to send a frame, it needs to RTS first, so the AP can CTS everybody and everybody will wait. I’m talking about the hidden node problem, which we get when using outdoor directional antennas in a multipoint environment.

I’ve enabled RTS/CTS in a NanoStation5 which connects to a RB333+EnGenius 8602 as AP, but didn’t work.

But, I’ve also enabled RTS/CTS in some Edimax and OvisLink 2,4 GHz radios which connect to a RB333+R52H and it worked fine.

Does RTS/CTS answers has anything to do with the wireless card we use in our RBs?
