I’m a little confused about what the GUI is saying about the 5GHz WiFi:

I have not a single device connecting to the 5GHz AP all 20+ devices are hogging the 2.4GHz interface.

Hi,

There are extremly too little info about you configuration. Please share details.
It's hard to believe that there is no error if it does not work in ROS7 and stable ROS6.

Thanks for asking. A hAC access point where I just did a reset. So channel, width are default. I only changed the SSID.

In Mikrotik-land, a wifi AP interface is only considered running (R) if at least one client is connected to it.

There is an option to disable this behavior, but this is only necessary in special cases. So this is not a problem that would need fixing.

There's something else that leads to your devices preferring 2.4GHz instead. A common one is that Mikrotiks will happily select "obscure" frequencies on 5GHz, that many clients are not comfortable with using. Select a common frequency (e.g. 5260 MHz) manually.
