Hello Goodnight!! I am new to the mikrotik forum and something new in the topic of routed networks.
I want to raise my problem and that I have been observing that there are many with the same subject.
I could not find the file, I have tried the solutions but something I do not understand or it does not work on the PIM or IGMP-PROXY.
I show you in the attached file the structure of the network that I have.
What I need in any segment of the network, SONOS speakers work, I was seeing that multicast and broadcast traffic should be routed?
I tried ICMP-Proxy for hours, but I see that I don’t understand how IGMP-Proxy and Upstream works, does anyone know how to configure IGMP-PROXY? Does the IGMP-PROXY allow the bidirectional traffic of the Multicast?
I do not know if I understand … I repeat I am half new in routed networks, but first time I find myself in front of the teams that need multicast.

Most answers for that kind of setup is NO, because most network-connected speakers and media players (Sonos, Apple TV, HomePod, etc.) require the devices to be in the same broadcast domain (same subnet), and won’t work in a routed environment except for one case: using a mDNS/Bonjour proxy.
You can read more about this at the following article: https://www.vivitek.eu/Download/Documents/Enabling_iOS_Mirroring_in_a_Multiple-subnet_Environment.pdf
Hi
for what is worth I managed to make it work through VPN (ikev2) using a PIM “proxy”. Router as representative for 224.0.0.0/4
Keep in mind it will take time before it becomes operationnal, its not just a set and and it work: the registrations must be made at their own pace so wait a few hours when enabling the PIM.
Also if using wireless for the speakers you must enable Client to Client Forwarding otherwise the Sonos grouping will have troubles…
(Homekit aka bonjour couldn’t make it work.)

Thank you very much for your comments.
I’m sorry something I don’t comment, is that I have RIP routing routers working.
What I did with IGMP-PROXY was to achieve multicast traffic to the main network, 192.168.0.0/24, this means that the client that is connected directly to the main router (that is, has an IP of subnet 0), can see Speakers and use them, but don’t manage to do it with the other networks.
lecaf, the VPN for what would it be?
best regards!!

…just a VPN to connect to home when not at home from my mobile device.
I’ve mentionned it because VPN also doesnt by default let broadcasts out, so the issue is similar to yours.
Now on, why do I need to be able to control Sonos from my phone when I’m not at home?..the answer is simple …because I can ![]()
