S-85DLC05D vs S-35LC20D

I want to connect two RB2011UiAS RM via SFP. Actually they are only centimeters apart, but this may change in the future. New distance will be beyond 50m though.

As this is my first contact with fiber I need to ask some essential questions:

  • Can you connect a S-85DLC05D to a S-35LC20D?
Which cable has to be used? In my understanding I should go for OM2/OM3 LC/LC, right?
If prize doesn’t matter which one to choose?

No, you can not.
Both fiber modules need to use the same optical wave length and the same fiber type.
So if you choose a 85/05 SFP, it uses 850nm laser on a multimode fiber (OM3 or OM4) and uses 2 fiber strands (dual LC connector) for a 500m distance.
The 35LC is a single mode transceiver that works in tandem with a 53LC one (you buy them in pairs) over a single single SM fiber strand using 2 wavelengths (1550nm and 1310 nm) to achieve full duplex mode on up to 20km distance.
So these 2 are copletely incompatible.

You need either a pair of 85DLC05 transceivers over 2 OM3-OM4 fibers with dual LC connectors, or a pair of a 35LC20 and a 53LC20 over a single SM fiber with LC connectors. For short distances, in the latter case, a OM4 fiber (the turqoise one) will also do, but a SM fiber (the yellow one) is recommended.

Thx for explanation.

I have a strange situation: I have two transceivers with a 85DLC05D sticker on it, but one shows up as a 35LC20D using 850nm?!?

There certainly is no 35LC20D with a 850nm laser, so you probably have either a wrong identification, or a defective part… Best direct this issue to support.
