If I use a copper module on a router, does the electronic on the next end have to have a copper module? Or can I connect to a regular 1Gb Ethernet port on the electronic?
I ask because I am using an inline network appliance that sits between my router and switch and I would prefer to use the SFP modules.
Eg. CCR Router Copper SFP Module → 1GB NIC on Network Appliance → Copper SFP Module on CRS Switch

The Ethernet signals on a copper SFP are exactly the same like on a normal copper Ethernet port, so you can connect them to each other. But, as is the case with the regular copper Ethernet ports, some speed and duplex modes may not be supported, so it can happen that the particular copper SFP only supports GigE and won’t set up a link with a FastE (100 Mbit/s) port on the other end. But that should not be your concern as you want GigE at both ends, and as S-RJ01 in particular declares 10/100/1000 support.
I have two such modules (gigabit ethernet on the exposed end, the SFP Port attached to my two RB260GS SGP cages…
Gives me two extra ports for my switch I can use on my network.
The only thing to ensure is that you have the right SFP as there is SFP plus as well…
