S-RJ01 SFP Module: Connector Type: LC?!?!

In my company’s CRS212-1G-10S-1S+PC I have inserted two Mikrotik S-RJ01 RJ-45 Ethernet 10/100/1000 SFP Modules.

In both cases:

The SFP tab for each interface begins promisingly enough with a little check-mark against ‘Module Present’.
Less promisingly however, the following ‘Connector Type’ field reports ‘LC’ rather than ‘RJ-45’.

Mikrotik’s own RJ-45 SFP Modules are several times the price of their non-branded counterparts; I considered the extra expenditure worthwhile to avoid chasing time-wasting, never-ever-will-work incompatibilities which make me cry.

So now I’ve laid down the big bucks for the ‘genuine article’ S-RJ01’s, what’s the story with their connectors being identified as Lucent?
Colin

If you think Mikrotik is rough wait until you play with Cisco,HP,Dell modules that are in most cases just Finisars at 16-20X the markup

Hi djdrastic,

I appreciate your post warning of the unwarranted & arbitrary prices being asked for re-branded SFP modules.

The more I look at SFP as a ‘standard’, the more immature this whole are looks.

Mikrotik have their own compatibility ‘advisory’: wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/MikroTik_SFP_module_compatibility_table

In the aforesaid table an S-RJ01 is declared happy to be married with a CRS212-1G-10S-1S+IN.

I have some pairs of RJ-45 LRE modules: CPE & CO, which although detected as ‘present’ have NOTHING under their respective SFP tabs for ‘Connector Type’.

I am awaiting four full-blown SFP modems to be delivered; why do I have a terrible feeling the next few months, of installing ‘new to market’ SFP modules, is going to prove frustrating.

Is it not just a cosmetic thing?
Is the RJ-45 module working as expected?
