I am quite fresh in Mikrotik environment, but I already managed to implement a PCQ tree of queues to manage the small amount of home ADSL bandwidth.
I have an ICT science degree, which usually makes me quickly understand anything I need, but this doesn’t make me an expert, so I’m here.
I am really a Mikrotik RouterOS enthusiast and I enjoy exploring it.
Then… let’s talk about the topic.
I am about to activate a bi-directional satellite connection using tooway satellite provider, and the technician who came to my home told me that I’ll need for a TP-Link router with customized firmare to manage the connection.
He told me that not any router can do the job, and when I’ve shown him my RB750G he didn’t look to has any idea of the power hidden in its anonymous white case.
He proposed to install a system composed by
tooway satellite modem ↔ ethernet cable ↔ tp-link router access point ↔ ethernet ↔ powerline comm. ↔ home lan
Well… since I ALREADY have my own well working powerlines and an excellent RB750G which I bought three years ago and has been laying unused for a long time, I’d like to tell him to simply take the damn cable to my home lan, and forget anything else, but I’m not completely sure about the troubles which may come from the satellite latency times and maybe performance issues due to other specific satellite connection troubles.
So… in the end… since in tooway faqs there isn’t anything about custom routers, and they simply tell to connect the home router as a DHCP client, I ask if anyone of you know of histories about troubles using a Mikrotik directly plugged in internet satellite modems.
Hello friend. I am a Tooway and Avanti Certified installer and we can talk
1.- tooway doesnt need a special kind of router to work.
2.- Tooway residencial and some pro contract and no-incoming connections allowed, you need the big pro contract for be reacheable
3.- I think, the technician knows a book jeje, and they are using a tp link with dd wrt and doing VPN to anywhere and creating a VPN for allowing access (is very common this in Tooway users). I am doing in my house with my server in USA for getting access to my internet network, but with the computer directly or with the 751…
4.- You dont need a special router, is the technician give you his VPN settings, you can do in the Mikrotik,
5.- you can use any kind of LAN router with Tooway and the viaSAT Modem. Please, plug directly your mikrotik to the modem and you will be ready.
I am very very sure. 9999999% percent, I have a lots of connection

I confirm it’s true. I’ve just called the installer, who told me basically the same things. He didn’t tell me what exactly was the hardware he wanted to place in my house, but I’m pretty sure he was talking about a dd-wrt flashed one.
I do. I am acrivating a flat business contract with statical IP, which should be reachable via VPN, even if I’m not actually that sure I’ll need for it. The business contract is interesting because it hasn’t got any traffic limit, protocol filter or other limits. It a 22Mbps (max) in downlink and 6Mbps (max) in uplink.
Since I have a statical IP, I don’t need his VPN settings, right?

I’ll manage to prepare a script which update all the queues speeds to the new connection limit values!
