I would like to ask how is that when I scan i get -73 and then after connecting to this device the signal is reduced to -79 but re-scan and it still shows that device at -73?
noise floor can change, and the datarate can also change when you connect
I’ve noticed with several different brands, hardware, etc, that a scan tends to see things with rose colored glasses, better than they actually are. Once the link is established the signal levels are far more accurate.
As a passive device, just scanning, not transmitting, the chips and LNA are going to be a little cooler, a little cleaner. As the device powers up, produces its own electrical and RF noise, heat, etc, signal will vary.
I always just assumed that scan and registration page were reporting the power level at the lowest data rate and therefore the one most likely to have the highest power.
Could be that. Basic rates should be what the AP beacons at.
I’ve just noticed signal fluctuations due to temp of the devices, so I think that has a bit to do with it.
I must conduct a test where scan is reporting say -73 and they set data rate to 6Mps only and check is signal still -73?
